Dr. Samuel Osama Ogbeide

Dr. Samuel Osama Ogbeide, MBBS, FRCSE, MSc, FRSM, LMCC, MCFP, is a physician, educator, and writer with nearly four decades of diverse medical experience spanning Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

A graduate of the prestigious University of Ibadan Medical School (1986), Dr. Ogbeide trained as a surgeon in the UK, earning a Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (1995) and a Master’s in Surgical Science from University College London (1996). He later transitioned to Family Medicine, obtaining certification in the UK (1998) before establishing his practice in Canada, where he has served in both Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) and Alberta (AB).
His distinguished career encompasses:
  • Clinical practice in rural and urban settings across three continents.
  • Academic leadership as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Calgary.
  • Health system leadership, including roles as Community Medical Director and contributions to Alberta’s Primary Care Networks.
  • Innovations in medical education, particularly in patient communication, ethical clinical reasoning, and learner mentorship—earning him the Hal Irvine Community Focus Award from the University of Calgary.
Dr. Ogbeide’s unique perspective—forged at the intersection of medicine, cross-cultural practice, and education—fuels his passion for patient empowerment, informed consent, and collaborative healthcare decision-making. Beyond medicine, he is a dedicated advocate for social cohesion and community development. Currently, he serves as Medical Director for three family medicine clinics while pursuing his literary interests. An avid writer since his youth—when he won high school literature awards for fiction—Dr. Ogbeide now channels his creativity into clinical lecture notes, comedy scripts, and short novels. He believes humor bridges divides and enjoys blending wit with wisdom in his work.

Outside medicine and writing, his passions include:

  • Music: Playing the acoustic guitar (with aspirations to learn the cello and saxophone) and appreciating jazz, classical, Nigerian pop, and South Indian music.
  • Philosophy, applied physics, and big-game hunting.
  • Theatre: A former lead actor in school dramas, he relished traveling for performances.
Dr. Ogbeide’s writing reflects his rich life experiences, medical expertise, and belief in the power of storytelling—whether educating, entertaining, or inspiring change.
